Why Intention Setting Is the Key to Your Best Year Yet
Have you ever set a New Year’s resolution, only to feel disconnected from it a few weeks later? I’ve been there too. It’s frustrating to start with so much excitement, only to feel like the momentum fades before anything really takes root.
There’s a better way. A more grounded, authentic way to shape your year. One that feels soul-led, not pressure-filled.
That’s where intention setting comes in.
The Power of Intention Setting
What Is Intention Setting?
Intentions are not just about what you want to accomplish. They’re about how you want to live, feel, and move through the world. They help you connect with your deeper desires and embody them, rather than just chase after outcomes.
If a goal is to launch a new offering, the aligned intention might be:
“I create from a place of joy, integrity, and service.”
Intentions guide the energy behind your actions. They become your compass when things feel scattered.
Why This Practice Matters
When you take the time to set intentions, you tap into clarity, alignment, and purpose. Intentions help you:
Feel more grounded in your day-to-day choices
Make decisions that reflect your values
Navigate challenges with more grace and less pressure
I didn’t start feeling truly connected to the life I was creating until I began setting intentions. Before that, I wrote goals in my journal out of habit, but they didn’t carry meaning. Intention shifted everything. It brought presence to my planning and purpose to my vision.
Balancing Intentions with Goals
How They Work Together
Goals give direction. Intentions define the energy behind them. You don’t have to choose between doing and being—you can hold both.
Here’s an example:
Goal: Finish writing my course content this month.
Intention: Stay rooted in authenticity and allow the message to come through clearly.
When I start my day with intention, I move with more ease. Whether it’s a feeling I want to embody or a focus I want to hold, it becomes an anchor in the chaos.
Daily Practices to Set Intentions
If you’re just beginning, keep it simple. Here’s what I recommend:
Morning Check-In: Before your day starts, ask yourself how you want to feel.
Visualization: Picture the energy of your day and how you want to show up in it.
Journaling: Use prompts like:
“Today, I intend to…”
“I align my energy with…”
